What is Alongside?
Alongside was created by doctoral-level clinicians. When students use the platform, they’re guided through pre-created, evidence-based exercises and strategies designed by those same experts. The AI helps match the right resource to the right student at the right time, and it also monitors for signs of crisis. AI does not give mental health advice or recommendations—it only connects students with resources created by licensed clinicians. If a student mentions a serious concern that requires mandatory reporting (such as abuse or thoughts of harm), the school team receives a private notification so staff can follow up quickly and appropriately.
Alongside is a secure, evidence-based platform introduced as a supplemental tool for students. Its purpose is to help them build practical skills for managing everyday stressors and supporting overall well-being. It is not intended to replace the critical work of our school-based mental health staff, such as social workers and counselors, or a student’s individual therapist. Families may opt out of the platform at any time during the school year, and they may also choose to opt back in if they later decide they would like their student to participate.

Unlike general chatbots, Alongside is built for student support and wellness. Blogs and videos from our clinical team explain how it works and what makes it different. A short walkthrough video shows what a typical chat looks like from the clinical perspective.
-
Students can use Alongside to practice skills called superpowers, which build areas such as stress management, problem-solving, friendship skills, and healthy routines.
-
Alongside has built-in content guidelines and restrictions by grade level to make sure conversations are safe and age appropriate.
