Congratulations to Michael Edwards, May’s Optimist Student of the Month! A dedicated student-athlete at James Monroe, Michael has excelled in both academics and athletics, earning a spot on the Principal’s Honor Roll while competing at the highest levels in football and basketball. His impressive list of accolades includes First Team All-Region and All-District honors in basketball, Second Team All-State recognition, and the prestigious Lowery Memorial Underclassman Athlete Award. With over 1,000 career points and a selection to the Annual Area All-Star Classic Basketball Game, Michael has left a lasting impact on JM athletics. Beyond sports, he gives back to the community through service initiatives like the Celi Leahy Senior Day of Service. Michael plans to attend a four-year university to study Cybersecurity, and we can’t wait to see all that he accomplishes. UPDATE: On Thursday evening, the Federal Bureau Investigation (FBI), Washington Field Office, informed the Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD) they were attempting to locate a missing juvenile from Fairfax County in our city. FPD personnel recognized this juvenile as a trespass offender at James Monroe High School earlier this week. Information received from the FBI aided in our identification of this offender and elevated our concern for safety in our schools. Working with the FBI, the FPD followed many leads today in an effort to find Fasihullah Safar, all with negative results. In communication with the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, we strongly believe this same offender stole a vehicle from Stafford County late Thursday evening. This vehicle was recovered Friday afternoon out of state. From our investigation today, we’ve learned there is no direct threat to the Fredericksburg City Public School system. Safar’s whereabouts are unknown at this time. If you have any information, contact the Fredericksburg Police Department by calling 540-373-3122. 🎓FCPS is seeking representatives from each grade to participate in the beginning of the JMHS graduation event on May 16 at 6:15 PM at the UMW Anderson Center.
