Dr. Brendon Albon Named Chief Academic Officer of Fredericksburg City Public Schools

Fredericksburg, VA - The Fredericksburg City School Board has approved the appointment of Dr. Brendon Albon as the new Chief Academic Officer (CAO) of Fredericksburg City Public Schools, effective December 2, 2025.
Albon brings more than twenty-five years of experience as an accomplished, results-oriented education leader. His career reflects a strong record of elevating student achievement, developing strong programs, and guiding high-performing teams to achieve sustainable results.
At his core, he maintains a deep commitment to instructional excellence and opportunity. Working alongside teachers and administrators, he utilizes servant-centered leadership to create momentum. Albon has a proven record of innovation and systemic improvement.
“I am incredibly excited to be joining the Fredericksburg City Schools family. I am particularly excited to be returning to work at the division level and hope to leverage my years of experience at the school building, division, regional, and state levels to add support to assist teaching and learning throughout the division,” said Albon. “I believe that every learner, educator, and school can grow, and I am excited to be a part of the next phase of academic growth in Fredericksburg City. I sincerely appreciate the trust afforded to me and commit to serving Fredericksburg in the best way possible for many years to come.”
Albon most recently served as Assistant Superintendent for the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE). In this role, he led statewide school-based support initiatives aligned with the Virginia Support Framework. His leadership included designing school improvement structures that equip school leaders to provide personalized learning and meaningful support for students in high-need environments. During this time, he also served as VDOE Director of STEM & Innovation. His earlier leadership roles include Executive Director of Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, Instructional Supervisor for Amherst County Public Schools, and Instructional Specialist for Lynchburg City Schools. He began his career as a math teacher in Lynchburg City Schools and South African College High School.
Albon holds advanced degrees from the University of Lynchburg, where he published his dissertation titled: Academic Absence Regression: Changes in Mathematical Performance Due to Time Away from School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Education from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

Albon will begin his tenure on December 15, 2025.
