This evening, Monday, October 7, 2024, promptly at 7:30 PM, at James Monroe High School, the Fredericksburg City School Board will formally recognize and honor living legend Dr. Gladys West, for whom our new elementary school is being named.
In a historic move, the Fredericksburg City Schools Board chose on August 5, 2024, to name the city's third K-5 building Gladys West Elementary School. This the first school in the nation to recognize this great woman and her important achievements.

Congrats to Hailey Elizabeth Zeller, August 2024 Student of the Month!
We are excited to recognize Hailey for her exceptional leadership and commitment at James Monroe High School! As the President of the Writing Center, she has built and maintained its website, runs social media, and creates eye-catching flyers. Her involvement extends to Key Club, where she attended the District Convention, and DECA, where she participated in the State Leadership Conference. Hailey is also a proud member of the National Honor Society.
Her impressive accolades include recognition from the National Hispanic Recognition Program, 2nd place in the African American Poetry Contest, and consistent placement on the Principal Honor Roll throughout her high school career. Plus, she’s an AP Scholar!
Hailey’s dedication to community service shines through her work with the Mary Washington Junior Volunteer Program, JMHS tutoring, and volunteering with Key Club for local initiatives.
Looking ahead, Hailey plans to attend the University of Virginia to study Cyber Security and Pre-law. We can’t wait to see all the amazing things she will accomplish!
