Weekly Principal Message

Good evening, Patriots-

This is an important message from Dr. Brenda Russ, Principal of Hugh Mercer Elementary School.

We have a busy week ahead!

📅 Here is our week at a glance:

  • Students in K-5 continue to participate in math and literacy diagnostic assessments (screeners) that help us gather data on how to best meet their needs.

  • All students will have the opportunity to take the Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS) this week. This screener takes about ten minutes to complete. The goal is to gain insight on our students' social-emotional needs and implement strategies that support our students in these areas.

  • We will host our Attendance Awareness Month Spirit Week this week! 🔗Attendance Spirit Week Flyer

  • We kick off Hispanic Heritage Month tomorrow, September 15 through October 15th. This is an opportunity to celebrate our diverse school community and learn more about Hispanic culture and traditions. Our teachers have been provided with resources, activities, and read-alouds they can use this month.

  • We will have our 📸Fall Picture Day tomorrow, Monday, September 15.

🚌 Transportation Updates

Beginning Monday, September 15, Fredericksburg City Public Schools transportation updates will be delivered through ParentSquare to bus route-specific groups. All bus updates will be pushed as Alerts, which means all updates will be instantaneous. Parents/Guardians and Secondary Students should expect to see a text message from 66458.

🚗NEW Car Rider Procedures

As shared with families last week, HMES will begin its new/revised Car Rider procedures tomorrow, Monday, September 15. These new procedures enhance our safety efforts to keep everyone safe. We ask that all parents/families adhere to all safety protocols established by school officials. The traffic flow map is attached to this email for your review. 🔗NEW Car Rider Procedure Map

If you have not joined our PTA, it is not too late to do so! We have an amazing PTA that is focused on supporting our teachers and students. We would love to have you join us and our collective efforts to have a successful school year.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Let's have a wonderful week!
