Bike Safety 101

We want our students to be careful and safe at all times! Let's make sure we are all following the rules of Bike Safety!

Be Seen

  • Wear bright clothing and reflective gear

  • Use lights at night (Front & Rear)

  • Reflectors (Front= white and Rear= red)

Stopping

  • Use both brakes and squeeze GENTLY        

Communication

  • Make eye contact

  • Use hand signals

  • Use your voice, horns, and bells to let other people know you are there

Scanning

  • Look left, right, left

  • Scanning around with your eyes to know your surroundings. (front, left, right, back)

Helmet Fitting

  • Eyes: look up and see the rim of the helmet

  • Ear: side straps make V around ears

  • Mouth: Chin strap cannot be lifted over your chin

ABC Check

  • Air: Tires are firm. Squeeze each one to make sure.

  • Brakes: Try squeezing both brakes to make sure they can stop

  • Chain: Make sure the chain is clean, oiled, and moving smoothly
