Curriculum Development

The curriculum is a coherent and comprehensive plan for teaching and learning built upon a framework that promotes continuity and the cumulative acquisition and application of skills.  The curriculum shall state clearly and specifically what students are expected to know and be able to do by grade level and course.  Fredericksburg City School Board curricula shall meet or exceed the requirements of the Code of Virginia and regulations of the Virginia Board of Education and, at a minimum, shall be aligned to the Standards of Learning.

Goal

Every student will be academically successful and prepared for life, work, and college. The preparation of students for post-secondary life is a fundamental purpose of PreK-12 education. FCPS will educate students in an atmosphere of excellence and ensure that all students are challenged to stretch their talents and aspirations. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to pursue college, career, and independent living. Students who are challenged learn to problem-solve and create solutions to difficult issues. They stretch themselves to do things they didn’t know they could do and are prepared to face and resolve issues in other settings. All students can be challenged and therefore motivated to reach beyond perceived limits. A challenging education engages students and encourages them to reach new levels of personal excellence.
