Responsibility-Centered Discipline (RCD)

RCD is a proactive discipline model that emphasizes the development of students' self-control, responsibility, and respect for others. Through RCD, we encourage students to take ownership of their actions, understand the impact of their behavior on others, and learn constructive ways to resolve conflicts. This approach moves beyond traditional disciplinary measures by equipping students with valuable skills that help them succeed both in school and in life.

Research shows that when students learn to take responsibility for their actions, they build critical life skills like problem-solving, empathy, and resilience. With RCD, our goal is not just to reduce negative behaviors, but to foster a school culture of accountability, integrity, and mutual respect. By working together, we can create a supportive environment where each student feels empowered to make positive choices.

On April 7, 2025, families and staff gathered for an evening of learning and discussion during our Responsibility-Centered Discipline (RCD) information and feedback sessions. These conversations are helping us build stronger relationships, promote accountability, and support student success—together.

School Foundation Matrix Overview

As part of our commitment to fostering a positive, responsible school environment through Responsibility-Centered Discipline (RCD), each school has developed a Foundation Matrix. In RCD, we use the term "foundation" instead of "expectation" or "rule" to emphasize that these behaviors are essential building blocks for student success and responsibility.

The Foundation Matrix outlines the specific positive behaviors we expect students to display consistently throughout all areas of the school. These matrices serve as helpful reminders to guide students in making responsible choices and creating a supportive school community.

You will see the Foundation Matrices posted and referred to across classrooms, hallways, and common spaces in all of our schools starting with the upcoming school year. They reflect our shared commitment to ensuring a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment where every student can thrive.

We encourage parents and families to review your child's school-specific Foundation Matrix at the links below and partner with us in reinforcing these behaviors at home.
