James Farmer Scholars

James Farmer Scholars

Our Fredericksburg City Public Schools James Farmer Scholars are provided with weekly and monthly opportunities to strengthen their academic skills through academic enrichment, hands-on activities, afterschool tutoring, and regular Saturday Sessions.

The program's success has been a collaborative effort among scholars, families, and educators. Highlights from the 2023-24 academic year include:

  • A tour of the University of Mary Washington campus to learn more about Dr. James Farmer's civil rights legacy and contributions to UMW as a distinguished professor

  • Field trips to the Fredericksburg Area Museum

  • Lessons from local artist Johnny P. Johnson

  • A special presentation by Elliot Armstrong, from the NSWC Dahlgren Division's Community Engagement STEM Outreach, entitled "Human-Robot: Evolution of Robotics"

  • A motivational speech by student speaker Edward E. Mosley, Jr.
