Free Lance-Star Optimist Student of the Month

Jacob Donald Wigglesworth Jr., the son of Donald Wigglesworth, is a senior at James Monroe High School. Jacob is a member of National Honor Society, Scholastic Bowl and Latin Club. In SCA he has served as junior class president and as executive board vice president; he has served as DECA vice president of career and development. Jacob is a James Monroe Ambassador and James Farmer Scholar. He is also a member of the varsity football, tennis, indoor and outdoor track teams. Jacob will attend James Madison University and major in business/managerial economics or University of Richmond and major in econometrics and quantitative economics.

Kelsey Reviello, the daughter of Heather and Thad Reviello, is a senior at James Monroe High School. Kelsey is SCA executive board president, National Honor Society secretary, Fellowship of Christian Athletes leader and a member of Morgan’s Message. She is a member of the varsity field hockey team and the U18 Junior National Field Hockey Team. Kelsey has been named Regional Player of the Year and first-team all-district, region and state. Kelsey coaches several girls in the community in field hockey, works on two farms in King George County and at the King George Farmers Market. Kelsey has applied to the University of Michigan, where she will major in sociology, minor in social work and play DI field hockey.

Romel Lee Turner Jr., the son of Romel Turner and Tamara Robinson, is a senior at James Monroe High School. Romel is a James Farmer Scholar and a member of the Partnership for Academic Excellence, Harvard Journaling and Justflix Project, DECA and Level 82. He has played varsity football and basketball, and he has served both teams as captain. Romel has received the Lowery Memorial Award for Most Outstanding Underclassman Student Athlete. In football, he has been named second-team all-district, second-team all-region and honorable mention all-area. In basketball, he has been named second-team all-district, honorable mention all-region and honorable mention all-area, and he was selected to attend the inaugural OT7 Tournament. Romel has volunteered with Ceili Leahy Day of Service and Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank, and he has planted trees with City of Fredericksburg. Romel plans to attend a four-year university and possibly major in kinesiology; he would like to continue playing football in college.

Daejion Samuel, the son of Kerisha Samuel, is a senior at James Monroe High School. Daejion is a member of the varsity football and indoor track teams. He has received the Jacket Pride Award and Coaches’ Award for varsity football. He serves his community at Fredericksburg Area Food Bank and through his church, Ebenezer Baptist Church in Supply. Daejion plans to attend a four-year college to pursue a degree in computer science.

Angel Adwoa–Serwa Annor, daughter of the Rev. Kwame Annor and Cynthia Annor, is a senior at James Monroe High School. Angel is a James Farmer Scholar and Germanna Community College — Gladys P. Todd Academy dual enrollment student; she was named to the fall 2022 dean’s list. Angel has served as team manager for the junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams, she has earned a varsity volleyball letter. Angel and her family buy essential items like clothing for children, mattresses, bags of rice, bicycles and school supplies to donate to villages in their home country of Ghana. Angel plans to join the Air Force as an E-3. In the future, she would like to build a free clinic in Bonwire, Ghana.

Zanija Ny’Cole Burrell is a senior at James Monroe High School. Zanija was selected as Student of the Month for being a positive influence in her classes and throughout the school. She is kind and a wonderful friend and leader for her peers. Zanija is employed at Spotsylvania Towne Centre. She will participate in the Ceili Leahy Day of Service, and she supports nonprofit organizations in Fredericksburg. Zanija is active in her church and enjoys spending time with her family. Zanija is interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology or nursing.
