What is an Instructional Technology Coach (ITC)?
An Instructional Technology Coach (ITC) provides a range of support and resources to teachers focused on the integration of technology into instruction. The ITC acts as a conduit of best practices by working with teachers across the school and even the division in sharing the what, the why, and the how of instructional technology. The role of the ITC is to help teachers become effective innovators by assisting in the use of technology, the exploration of new strategies and approaches, and the research of specific resources to support instructional goals. It is important to remember that the ITC is not a content expert in all areas. Rather, the ITC is available to support teachers by providing creative ideas and resources, collaborating in planning and/or teaching lessons or units involving integration of technology, providing training and professional development, and engaging in other professional activities that support instruction.
ITCs are available to support teachers through:
- Co-planning instruction
- Co-teaching lessons
- Being an extra pair of hands in class when using technology with students
- Researching instructional technologies
- Teaching mini-lessons for students
- Attending team meetings (department, pod, etc.)
- Providing group professional development
- Providing personalized technology sessions
